Gary Davis <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> speaketh about ISOBEL CAMPBELL: > I was actually somewhat surprised at what I'd heard. If I didn't know I > was listening to a new recording, I would've sworn from the arrangements I > heard that I was listening to a 60's release! ISOBEL CAMPBELL is formerly a member of BELLE AND SEBASTIAN and the driving force behind the group THE GENTLE WAVES (a B&S offshoot band). this is her first solo album. i have been less and less interested in B&S as a whole and their various off shoot projects like LOOPER (first album had two decent songs on it, their second album was kind of a dud and i didn't bother with their third album), THE GENTLE WAVES (first album was rather bland, i never bothered with the followup) and now a proper solo album for ISOBEL CAMPBELL. but your comments have certainly renewed my interest a bit. i shall have to give the GENTLE WAVES first album another listen to. and perhaps check out some of her latest release. i would definitely recommend checking out THE GENTLE WAVES if you like her solo album though. she was the creative force behind that group (her input on BELLE AND SEBASTIAN songs i think was pretty minimal). METH speaketh about instrumental songs: > >But those were all in the 80s. Now I'm trying to think > >of some from the 90's...anyone? > > I may be completely misremembering the song, but wasn't there an > instrumental hit song in the '90s called "Cantaloop"? (Or was that the > name of the group that did it?) was that the song by US3? released around 1993, i think it was called CANTALOOP (FLIP FANTASIA) but i can't remember if it was an instrumental or not. it was a jazzy hip hop sort of song if memory serves me correctly. sort of in the same vein as PM DAWN, GURU's JAZZAMATAZZ, and DIGABLE PLANETS. irvin
