Not strictly music news, but this little gadget might be of interest to some Ectophiles: Rio Karma is a portable player with support for FLAC and Ogg Vorbis file formats, and software that will work with Linux and MacOS X and even Solaris as well as Windows... If I understand this correctly it will work with "other" OS's through a Java client, connecting through its Ethernet docking station (comes standard with the player). Ogg Vorbis support alone makes it interesting to me, since my entire music collection is encoded in this format; I also imagine (and hope) it means lack of any Digitally Crippled hoops to jump through. I've been pretty lukewarm about iPods and the like, but this one seems exactly like something I'd want: no rubbish, no "features" I'd never want or use, no FM radios or recorders - just decent playback! It's cheaper than iPod, too. Here is the review I just read: http://phataudio.org/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=195 And on another note, Go Barney, go! Let's hope he sticks around for a few more years! --------------------------------------------------------------------- "Fascism should rightly be called Corporatism as it is a merge of state and corporate power" -- Benito Mussolini -- 17:12:03 up 5 days, 3:44, 1 user, load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00--
