in that case you might want to check out the curses libraries (curses, ncurses) many of the function prototypes listed in the header files (curses.h, ncurses.h) are color related and there are functions for text windows like you will see if you use the text based installer that Redhat supplies with thier disto. :) My network gateway is a Redhat 9 box and I looked thru the header files to find this information. I have never used these libraries so I can't give you any sample code.
