I did discover by trial and error that eliminating Optimize and 
Progressive as options did seem to resolve the problem, at least in some 
cases.  The DVD player does support progressive mode but apparently not 
for digital photos.  Also, it won't handle grayscale images.   They have 
to be converted to RGB.   I hope that is all that is involved.
