Have you looked at the higher end 3Dlabs cards?  www.3dlabs.com

Generally what you can get from these cards is better modeling / animation
performance.  To the extent that this speeds up your 3D artwork or your
level design work, it could help you.  But of course, you will eventually
have to run everything on a computer with a normal 3D card.  Still, you
might not want "normal" speed to design levels or models, you might want
"very fast" speed.
