Go into your ~/.wine/config file and temporarily change:
; Allow the window manager to manage created windows
"Managed" = "Y"
to "N".

Run Word, and change the size to the desired size, and exit. Change your 
config file back. Word should now start up at the new size. No, I don't 
know why such a convoluted process is required.
