You seem to be shifting the requirements to exclude Cognos. If you want to talk planning I don't imagine XLCubed is probably the product you are going to do it with. It looks to me like it is a reporting tool that does writeback. I am guessing (not being a planning expert at all) that something like an Outlooksoft or Cognos Enterprise Planning (formerly Adaytum) would probably fit the bill better there. So, back to your original point, the Excel plugin for Cognos PowerPlay does do formula based queries which would fit into your disjointed reporting category.
