Hi all,
We want to move to Ingres 2.6 on Solaris 9. What the requirements are for the database server - cache, RAM, HD? And besides requirements, what you recommendations are?
I am not sure which of SunFireV120, SunFire V210, SunFire V240 to chose. I was thinking of 2 HD. Are they enough?
Two drives is nowhere near enough. You really want maybe 7 at a minimum, and my favored configurations run to 14 or more drives: 2 drives minimum for data, 3-4 is better, double if you're mirroring; 2 drives mirrored for transaction log; 2 drives minimum for work and I prefer 3 or 4; 1 drive, or 2 drives mirrored for journal and II_SYSTEM and such, plus more for checkpoint and dumps if you can't fit them onto the transaction log disks.
As far as RAM goes it depends what else you're doing on the machine, and how big the database is. Hard to say from a distance.
I think you'll do better with one of the USIII servers (i.e. not the V120), but beyond that it's hard to pick without getting into more details.
