Re: Script (button) to open another database and copy in the specific fields

There are two ways off the top of my head:

1) Limit the current found set to just the current record (using show all records, omit record, show omitted); call a script in the other file that imports the needed fields from the original file. It will import the one record and create a new record with your required data in doing so.

2) In the second file, set all needed fields as lookup fields based on the primary ID key in the first file. To get your data over into the second file, set a global in the second file to your ID field (I'll call it FirstFileID), call a script in the second file that creates a new record and then sets the FirstFileID field in this second file to the value in the global. This will trigger the lookup of all the other fields.

This is probably a stupid question, but I've been playing around with
many to many and related fields all night with no luck, so I thought
I'd try here. If you can help that would be wonderful.

I'm using Filemaker 6 on OSX.

I have a database that contains contact information. It's perfect and
I love it. Entering data is a snap and all the scripts run well.

However, I run into trouble when trying to take data from this
database and have it auto entered into another, related database. What I'd like to be able to do is have a button in the original
(working) database that will open another database, create a new
record and automatically import field information from the original
database related to a Customer ID field (unique).

However, I'm unable to figure out how to write a script that will pull
or put data into a difference database file. I might be going about
this all wrong, but it was late and I was half asleep at the time. When I played around with the related fields options I could never get
it to enter in all of the fields I wanted. It would copy over the
Customer ID but nothing else. (should have copied over another 5 or 6
fields)

Thanks in advance for any help!

-Eric
