Thanx for your elaboration on this matter. I wasn't aware that there could be such a nice and simple explanation for the compression limit. My question is, is there any compression method that actually processes the outgoing stream and evaluates it's entropy / possible compression ratio? I know some compare possible outgoing streams and choose the best option, but do any compression programs/algorithms make multiple passess? Although it's a very slim chance of seeing things like this happen here and there, wouldn't it be nice to know that our compressed file is un-deflatible? I don't think it would take that much of an impact on speed? Thanx in advance!
