Addins for Office 2000 using VC++ problem enbedded Objects

We have written an Addin for Office 2000 using VC++ and following is
my problem.
I have an excel chart embedded inside a word document. When I start
editing this excel chart, the excel plugin receives notifications
about activities.
I need to know if the excel document is embedded or not. 
Is there a way to figure this using excel objects ?
