Parrallel port

Hi,
    I am having touble with the parrallel port onmy PC.
I use the printer status input pins to read data from. Somehow two of
the pins are always low. (original or legacy PP port)
So when, from a program I do inportb(port addr + 1) do not get a
reading (except for zero) from pins 11, 12 of the 25 pin connector. I
have tried pull up resistors on both pins and cannot seem to make them
go to a high level. I had been using them OK but when I used the
configure board CD (it is a single board (OKTEK) motherboard) these
pins stopped working. It does not matter how I configure the port
using setup, the pins still stay low.
Anyone got any ideas,
