Nortons Antivirus 03 Kernal32 problem

Hello cyber helpers, my name is Riko and recently I installed Nortons
on a friends PC that was operating without AV software. They have the
Swen bug which I will be promptly removing but when i installed
Nortons it allowed me to do a full system scan straight away but found
no viruses. I then tried to get a live update and it would not let me.
Also trying to set Autoprotect to on and emailscanning on it would not
work. The machine returned an error message to me on all occasions
saying error Kernal32 then displayed the line the error was on i
think. Every time I tried it the line would change.Any help would be
greatly appreciated.

This is the first time I have used a forum for help so any input into
the etiquate of forum posting would be welcome. I don't know wether or
not to include screen dumps or if I have supplied to little
information?

Oh yeah the Nortons was a (hehem) backup copy and i didn't register it
on-line if that helps?
