It occurred to me that Scott Dorsey wrote in comp.bugs.2bsd:

You can reformat a third-party disk. I'm succesfully using a Seagate
ST-251 (aka DEC RD32). You'll need the field maintenance kit for it.
I should have a bootable floppy disk image containing the required files.
