Indeed. Just a couple of months ago I was contacted by some researchers who wanted to write > 2Gb unformatted records from their code (just because they wanted to dump an array that large at once).


Guess what ? I have the update for that in my local g77 tree now for two months, but I don't dare to commit it, because - on my feeble 256 Mbyte Powerbook - I can only test that it doesn't break existing code - I can't *run* a program that does what those people want.

My next system has to have more than 4 Gbytes (probably 6 is a good number) and I need it in 2004, because otherwise I'll routinely depend on others to run my tests.
