What's the point with a 800-1600MHz memorybus controler?

That is the AGP connection so to speak. The memory attachment is not through the 800 MHz bus, but through an on-chip interface.

And why should this 754pin 32-bit cpu be cheap enough to manufacture
that it makes sense instead of the 754pin 64-bit cpu? Double why,
since AMD should have a vested interest in moving customers and apps
to 64-bit.

I guess this will only be launched if 64 bit has become a no brainer. Or just as Celeron competition.

At least it gives AMD some more ways to differentiate the product line for single CPU:

- clock speed
- memory bus width
- 32 / 64 bit ISA
- cache size

I'd think that cache size would be the real cost saver, and that a small cache 754 64 bit chip would be most in line with what AMD wants. But if there are 32 bit benchmarks to be met, a 32 bit only version may be the way to prevent cannibalization of the 64 bit line.
