If you're using SAM-FS, use "partial release" on the files containing the file metadata. This ensures that the file type/creator information is available to the AppleTalk server without having to bring the file in from tape. (Simplest is just to set partial-release on all files, actually, and leave 16K or so of each file on disk.) -- Anton
