I was wondering what would it take to make my own SSI chips?

Of course I'm not talking about 90 nM resolution.. but something
like 0.1 millimeters (at best). I have a 2400?dpi laser printer.

How does one make a transistor? Is this technology reachable from
the (enthusiast) hobbyst? Where could I find the necessary materials?

It seems like the kind of thing a truly obsessed hobbyist
could do. If I were doing it, I'd find out everything I
could about the transistors Shockley originally made at Bell
Labs. I'd find a chemist I could talk to about plating
doped germanium out of solution. I wouldn't dream about
commercial viability.

Good Luck. I won't see followups because I'm reading
this in comp.arch.embedded, and it's totally off topic here.

Mel.

Yes it can be done, see Scientific American, some were around the mid 1970's for some field effect ones.
