LOTUS 123 Line feed

I have just upgraded to Windows XP and have reinstalled Smart Suite 97
Lotus 123.  I am accessing a spreadsheet created under WIN98 and have
the following problem.

When I wanted to split a line of text in Win98 I added a ALT+10 to
create a charater that acted as a line feed.  It showed up as a ||.

Under XP it shows up as a ? and does not act as a line feed.

Any thoughts.
