Thank you Peo, the only problem is that when I try that it only copies "Dog1" over and over and doesn't increase the numbers. Am I doing it wrong, or is there a default formula I need to activate? (I tried it both with and without a space before the number and with the number befor and after) thanks again, zaphod "Peo Sjoblom" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote in message news:<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>... > By default Excel will do that, just type Dog1 in the first cell and then > copy down and the numbers > will increment > > -- > > Regards, > > Peo Sjoblom > > "Zaphod Beeblebrox" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote in message > news:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > > Does anyone know how to get Excel to label cells in a column so that > > it repeats a word but adds ascending numbers to the word in each cell? > > (i.e. I want column A to read Dog1, Dog2, Dog3...Dog160 without > > having to type "Dog" and the numbers for each individual cell). > > Thanks! > > Zaphod Beeblebrox
