The Doing Affector

                      The Doing Affector

Understanding the human mind is easy if you know the different parts of an
intelligent system. The two major parts are knowledge and understanding.
Knowledge directs how the system is to operate and understanding does the
operating. It's the old cause and effect thing; knowledge is the cause and
understanding is the effect. Its important not to get these mixed up when
studying how the mind works.

Knowledge is stored in your memory along with your understandings too, but
thanks to language its easy to tell them apart. Understandings are mostly
words ending in the suffix (ing). Seeing, believing, talking, smoking,
walking, stroking, laughing, hearing, fishing, reading, writing, swimming,
hunting, sleeping, shooting; are all examples of the hundreds of different
understandings humans have. It takes knowledge to direct any of these
understandings to begin doing their thing. The knowledge that starts up an
understanding is called a 'director'; the understanding is the 'affector'.
There is a hierarchy of understandings and the most global understanding is
the Doing Affector.

As long as a person is alive they are 'doing' something and that something
is the doing affector. Within the scope of the doing affector there are
possibly many understanding affectors in operation. Let's say you are a
Hunter and want to run your hunting affector. Before you can run this
affector you will need some key knowledge. First you will need knowledge
about whether it is hunting season or not. Next you will need knowledge of
whether there is game in the place you want to hunt. If both these knowledge
's are true they direct you to begin your hunting affector.

Within the scope of the hunting affector you will need to bring along your
toolbox of other affectors to get the job done. For hunting you will need
your seeing, hearing, walking, stalking, shooting, killing, gutting,
skinning, butchering, carrying, and cleaning affectors to name a few. So you
begin hunting.

As you are walking around the forest, the seeing affector is looking for
game, if it sees game it creates knowledge of what it has seen. With this
knowledge you can now execute your stalking affector. You probably learned
the procedure for stalking game intuitively or by reading a book or watching
TV. The seeing affector continues to operate monitoring the game until it is
within range of your shooting affector. The shooting affector gets its
triggering knowledge from seeing and the effect is that the game is shot.
After that the killing, skinning, butchering affectors can run.

So that is what you are 'doing' when you are hunting, and hunting is within
the scope of the human 'doing affector'.
