I don't know, you've said something too general to be useful :)

Now, if we look at the example we'd take it to be some sort of
pre-specified knowledge interchange language which I think is the
wrong way to approach the problem of strong AI.

That is, you could create reasonably advanced entities with such
approaches (and these approaches have been tried) but you can't reduce
the problem of AI to a syntactical (in the sense of NARROW human
language syntax) analysis.
