Semantics means the study or theory of meaning, so yes they are quite related. Semantics of a sentence is meaning of a sentence, so when you say something like "meaning depends on physical interactions" you join the crowd of deep semantics theoreticians. :) How is it that (the existence of) physical interactions are a necessary and sufficient condition for the emergence of meaning?
