Is alife useful? Does it have commercial usage?

The topic tells it all.
ALife is interesting but does it has any real usage at the current
level? If we take NN for example there are many commercial
applications which use it more or less, it is the same with GA too.
But I could not find any about alife. Ofcourse there are some games,
researches and others but there is no direct benefit from them.
Something which can be useful in the real world right now. I hope that
I am clear enough if not do not hesitate to ask me anything :).
